This new direction follows organizational reforms at the government-backed institute, including the stepping down of its previous CEO last month after both employee protests and ministerial calls for strategic overhaul.

The latest project comes amid increasing worry about Britain's vulnerability to internet outages and cyber-attacks.
Recent incidents have highlighted these weaknesses, including a major outage affecting international online platforms and recent cyber-attacks that disrupted production at key facilities and supply chains across multiple companies.
Guidance and Direction
A ex-military leader of the UK's air and space warfare centre will provide findings next month on how the state-backed organization can optimally help the scale of government AI ambitions in defense, homeland protection and intelligence.
Strategic Realignment
The organization's leader, a ex-Amazon UK executive, confirmed that nearly eighty separate studies at the 440-staff institute have been terminated, transferred out or completed because they do not align with the new direction.
Internal Challenges
The center has faced organizational challenges since last year as employees objected against restructuring, culminating in a collection of workers submitting a formal grievance to the proper supervisory commission.
The organization's management stated that these whistleblower claims were third-party reviewed by a neutral third party that found them to have lack merit.
Broader Scientific Scope
The organization will also concentrate on implementing artificial intelligence for environmental applications and healthcare advancements.
Researchers will develop ways to use the fast-advancing technology to more rapidly and accurately forecast changes in atmospheric developments, ocean systems and sea ice, partly to better inform official disaster response teams.
The center will also target measurable pollution decreases in logistics infrastructure, manufacturing processes and critical infrastructure.

In the medical field, the focus will be on creating digital twins of heart systems, representing a frontline of personalized AI-enabled medicine that could improve medical interventions and recovery prospects for seriously ill heart patients.
