Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG that explores the series' apocalyptic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, plunging the United States into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, society crumbles and hostile groups rise, transforming the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been in progress for approximately several years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, particularly in North America. Manufacturing will start immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the system reveals it uses d10s exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and tactical style. Agents leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, players choose a single “resolution die” from the group.
- This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Situational Insight
Fights stress placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or visibility have a direct impact dice rolls. This system seems built to favor teamwork and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.
A Novel Health Mechanic
The way injuries is managed adds a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a trauma table, risking persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Adventure
A free introductory rulebook is promised in the near future. It contains a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
