The President Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Actions and Government Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident led the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
