Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
