Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems upon exiting the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has been without strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed the next day and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match following his omission the Adelaide game.
