'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear after the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a tough attitude and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, excelling for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches games against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm planning to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
