Fans Urge Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are demanding that a person who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two very different witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten award recognitions, earning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
