Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
